Charity News

We have aimed to put something back into the community by organising an annual Christmas Fair, fun events and general get togethers with proceeds going to charity.

You have an opportunity at the AGM to nominate your favoured registered charity and by a vote, the charities will be selected – it is YOU that nominates and decides.

Past years, have seen TWIG supporting Chiens Guides d’Aveugles du Sud-Ouest, Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity (SANDS), Association Olympe de Gouges, Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group, Women for Women, Macmillan, Oscar’s Angels, Camfed, Lea pour Samy (Autism), Victoria Benevolent Fund, Wateraid, Association de Jeunes Diabétiques – France, Stroke Association, Association Emmaus, Ecole Jean-Jacques Audubon and the adopted charity Cancer Support France, Mercy Ships Uk, Association Dominique and the Alzheimer’s Society UK.

The three charities who benefitted from the proceeds of the 2015 TWIG Christmas Fair were AGMOMP ( Association des Greffés de Moelle Osseuse de Midi-Pyrénées ) who support all aspects of bone marrow transplants – nominated by Brigitte Sawyer, SPA Carcassonne – Dog Rescue who support the re homing of abandoned dogs – nominated by Joyce Booth and Les Blouses Roses de Toulouse who provide craft and creative activities to children and adults in hospitals and in long term care – nominated by Tara Knight.

The 2016 CHRISTMAS FAIR was a huge success and raised €3,800 for each of our three chosen charities: IJA ( Institut des Jeunes Aveugles de Toulouse ) who support young blind people locally to integrate into normal school and everyday life, MSF ( Medecins sans Frontiere ) who bring urgent medical help to those who need it around the world and Trisomie 21 a charity in Toulouse which supports those with Down’s Syndrome and their families. Cheques were presented to each charity at the AGM on 29th March 2017

The three charities who were voted by members to benefit from the 2017 Christmas Fair were Chats du Quercy who find the right home for cats who have been abandoned, mistreated or can no longer be cared for by their owner, Voile Handi Valide who give people of all ages with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy a safe and pleasurable experience of sailing and Enfance Adolescence et Diabete who aid children living with mellitus diabetes to incorporate it into their everyday lives. Cheques for €3,730 were presented to each charity at the AGM on 28th March 2018
